Families Mourn as Father of Three and Mother of Five Killed in Motihari Clash

A routine water‑sharing dispute in the Patahi police jurisdiction of Motihari, Bihar, turned deadly on Saturday evening, leaving two families shattered. The incident unfolded in the Jihuli hamlet when a disagreement over water flow sparked a heated argument that soon escalated to a knife fight.

Villagers initially stepped in, and police arrived, advising the installation of a new pipe to resolve the conflict. After the officers left, the parties returned to their homes, but by nightfall the tension resurfaced, leading to a violent confrontation.

The victims – Jami Akhtar, a daily‑wage labourer and plywood‑factory worker, and Madina Khatoon, a homemaker – were critically injured and later died despite being rushed to the hospital. Akhtar was the sole provider for his wife and three children, handling their education expenses. Khatoon, mother to five, had been the primary caretaker while her husband worked at the same factory.

The deaths have plunged both families into grief, with eight children now facing an uncertain future. Police, under the direction of DSP Abhishek Kumar, have detained three suspects for questioning and are intensifying raids to locate additional accused persons.

The tragedy highlights how a minor resource disagreement can explode into lethal violence, leaving a community to grapple with loss and the welfare of orphaned children.
