How Fake Birth Certificates Led to Aadhaar Deactivations for 166,000 Residents

Investigations revealed that a large number of residents in Bihar were submitting altered or entirely fabricated birth certificates to lower or raise their age on Aadhaar. Such falsified documents were identified when UIDAI’s verification team compared the QR code on the certificate with the official municipal birth‑mortality registers. Whenever a mismatch was detected, the agency not only rejected the correction request but also blocked the underlying Aadhaar number. The crackdown also includes provisions for filing police complaints against individuals attempting to profit from false age information.
