Eight Days After Love Wedding, Conflict Leads to Fatal Hanging in Gannipur

In Gannipur’s Thana area of Muzaffarpur, a 19‑year‑old resident named Vikas Kumar ended his life by hanging himself on Monday. Vikas, who worked as an electrician, had moved into a rented accommodation after the local administration cleared illegal occupants from the ITI campus two months earlier.

He had married a neighbour on August 9 in a love marriage that quickly turned sour. Eight days after the ceremony, a dispute erupted between the spouses. The wife allegedly removed her sindoor, broke her mangalsutra and left for her parental home. Overcome with distress, Vikas locked himself inside a room. When the door remained shut for a long time, neighbours forced it open and discovered him hanging.

The body was taken to the police station, where it was sent for a post‑mortem. Authorities are now probing the family feud and the circumstances that led to the young man’s fatal decision.
