Ten lives were cut short in Katihar after a bus driver’s alleged intoxication led to a massive pile-up on NH-31. The accident, which took place near Datpur Musahari Chowk, involved a bus, a pickup van, and two motorcycles. Local authorities have confirmed 10 fatalities, including four people who were traveling on bikes at the time of the collision.

Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, stating that the bus was being driven erratically long before the fatal crash. The driver seemed completely out of control, hitting other objects on the road before the final collision. The direct hit with the pickup van was so forceful that it caused immediate deaths and left over 25 passengers with varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency services and local villagers worked together to pull victims from the wreckage. The atmosphere in the Korha police station area remains somber as families gather at the hospital. Police officials have stated that the primary cause of the accident appears to be the driver’s state of inebriation and high speed. Efforts are now focused on providing medical care to the survivors, many of whom are in a precarious state.
