DMCH Under Scrutiny After Guard Pulls Injured Man Across Floor

Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) finds itself at the centre of a controversy after a security guard was seen dragging a wounded, orphaned patient across the hospital floor instead of using a stretcher. The video, now circulating on various social channels, has raised serious concerns about patient safety and staff conduct.

Dr. Jagdish Chandra, the hospital's superintendent, confirmed the footage and called the episode "deeply regrettable and humiliating." He stressed that immediate care was administered: the man, who had a broken leg, was rushed to the orthopaedic wing, where a plaster was applied and a regimen of medicines and food was started. Monitoring doctors are keeping a close watch on his recovery.

The patient's inability to state his name or address has forced the hospital to involve the local police for identity verification. Hospital officials say that once the individual's details are established, they will inform his next of kin.

The guard has been singled out, and the agency responsible for his deployment has received a notice demanding action. The health manager of the institution has also been summoned to explain how such a lapse occurred and why on‑site personnel failed to stop it. In response, the administration has issued a blanket directive to all staff and security officers, emphasizing the need for dignified treatment of every patient, especially those without family support.

Although the incident is reported to have happened on August 21, the authenticity of the clip remains unverified. Nevertheless, DMCH officials have launched a formal inquiry, promising that any negligence uncovered will be met with appropriate disciplinary steps.
