DMCH Launches Probe After Guard Pulls Patient Across Ground
Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) has opened a formal inquiry after a video emerged showing a security guard dragging a helpless patient on the floor rather than moving him on a stretcher. The clip, which quickly went viral, has raised serious questions about the standards of patient care at the facility.
Superintendent Dr. Jagdish Chandra described the incident as "deeply distressing" and expressed personal embarrassment over the hospital’s conduct. He confirmed that the patient, who arrived with a fractured leg, was immediately admitted to the orthopaedic department, where he received a plaster cast, necessary medication, and regular meals. A dedicated medical team continues to monitor his health.
The patient was unable to provide personal details, leading the hospital to request assistance from local police to verify his identity. Once identified, the hospital intends to contact his relatives.
According to the administration, there was no shortage of stretchers; the guard’s negligence caused the mishap. The guard has been identified, and the agency that supplied him has been notified for disciplinary action. The hospital’s health manager has also been asked to explain why staff present at the scene did not intervene.
In response, the hospital has issued stringent directives to all employees and security staff, emphasizing the need for humane treatment of patients, especially those who are vulnerable or without support. The incident is reported to have occurred on August 21, though the video’s authenticity has not been independently confirmed. The investigation will determine the level of negligence and appropriate penalties for those responsible.
