Begusarai’s court made history on Thursday, handing down a death sentence to Vikas Singh for the Diwali 2019 massacre that wiped out three members of his own family. The chilling execution-style killings in Singhaul’s Machha village had haunted the community for years, but justice has finally prevailed.
Pronounced via video link to Beur Jail by Judge Brajesh Kumar Singh, the ruling is Begusarai’s first virtual death penalty verdict. It caps a gruesome chain of murders sparked by land greed. Vikas, already serving life for slaying his uncle Arun Singh in 2012 amid a property row, escalated his vendetta.
His aunt Munni Devi fell in 2017, case ongoing. Brother Kunal, poised to testify against him, faced threats. When Kunal stood firm, Vikas plotted revenge. On Diwali eve, October 27, 2019, he unleashed terror at 10 PM, gunning down Kunal, wife Kanchan, and daughter Sonam in their home.
Nephew Shivam barely escaped death when Vikas shot him point-blank while fleeing. The bullet grazed, allowing Shivam to alert authorities after finding his loved ones in pools of blood. The incident sparked widespread dread across the district.
Prosecutor Ram Prakash Yadav’s meticulous arguments, backed by pivotal witnesses like Shivam, doctors, and police, convinced the court. Key evidence included forensic reports and consistent statements.
Families of victims rejoiced cautiously, knowing appeals await. This case symbolizes resilience against familial betrayal and crime. It reinforces that Bihar’s judiciary won’t tolerate such barbarity, potentially deterring future land dispute violence. Begusarai steps forward, one verdict at a time.
