Delhi Plans 50+ Volvo Buses for Bihar Ahead of Chhath Festival
The Delhi government is planning to introduce a large fleet of luxury buses for travelers heading to Bihar. The service is being designed to handle the rush of passengers expected during the Chhath festival.
The transport department has planned to operate more than 50 AC luxury buses from Delhi to seven cities in Bihar. The buses are intended to offer a more comfortable journey for those traveling long distances.
Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Purnia and Bhagalpur are part of the first phase of the service.
Both state governments have already approved an agreement for the bus service. The proposal now awaits final approval from Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, after which the service can move ahead.
Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said the government wants the service to begin before Chhath this year. He noted that the agreement between Delhi and Bihar has been finalized in principle.
Because of the long distances involved, the department has decided to use Volvo buses instead of electric buses for now. These buses will also have adequate space for passengers' luggage.
The government has identified a total of 18 routes between Delhi and Bihar. However, only seven cities will be served in the first phase. Additional routes may be added depending on passenger demand and operational feasibility.
