Delhi and Nearby Regions Brace for Changing Monsoon Conditions

A shift in the monsoon pattern is set to affect Delhi and surrounding areas on September 10, according to the India Meteorological Department. While the capital city should enjoy clear skies and a high of roughly 35°C on Thursday, cloud build‑up is forecast to begin on September 11, leading to heavy rains on the 12th and 13th. A brief break may come on the 14th before another rain bout on the 15th.

The IMD has placed fifteen states and union territories under a rain and thunderstorm watch. Areas such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Punjab are all included.

Uttar Pradesh’s districts—including Gorakhpur, Bahraich, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Varanasi and Kanpur—are warned of thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds that could hit 65 km/h. Lucknow will stay cloudy with temperatures near 32°C.

In Bihar, heavy rain is expected in districts like Gopalganj, Siwan, Patna and Bhagalpur, with possible winds of about 50 km/h. The state is under an orange alert.

Rajasthan’s eastern districts may see isolated to heavy showers, while western regions experience a weaker monsoon. Jaipur’s maximum temperature is pegged at 34°C.

Madhya Pradesh’s central belt faces a heavy‑rain alert, with wind gusts up to 60 km/h in districts such as Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur. Temperatures are forecast in the low 30s.

Officials advise the public to monitor IMD updates, avoid unnecessary journeys during thunderstorms, and be ready for sudden flooding in vulnerable zones.
