Congress critiques BJP, calls patriarchy responsible for Jamui molestation

The Jamui incident has become a flashpoint in the political debate over women’s safety in India. Rahul Gandhi denounced the attack as a symptom of patriarchal attitudes that allow men to control girls’ movement and choices. He accused the ruling party of fostering a culture where such violence is normalized and labeled the BJP as one of the biggest enemies of women.

Gandhi’s remarks highlighted the gap between the party’s public promises of women empowerment and the reality on the ground, where even a minor girl cannot walk the streets without fear of abuse. He demanded that the government take decisive action, identify every participant in the video and prosecute them swiftly.

The state police have registered the case and arrested three suspects. The Congress leader also urged the central government to intervene, pointing to past incidents where lax response to crimes against women has emboldened perpetrators.
