Bihar Police Probe After 10k Aadhaar and Bank Documents Found Dumped

Residents of Mokari village in Kaimur district, Bihar, raised an alarm Tuesday after uncovering two large parcels filled with sensitive identity and financial paperwork near an abandoned pond. The contents included thousands of Aadhaar cards, ATM cards, passbooks, and cheque books, triggering concerns over public data security.

According to villagers, the discarded items number over 10,000 and belong to numerous households within the Mokari Panchayat. The careless disposal of documents housing personal identification and banking information has put many at risk of identity theft and financial fraud. Questions are mounting over how such a large volume of official paperwork escaped secure handling protocols.

The discovery unfolded when locals passing by the pond noticed the unattended bundles. After examining the contents, they realized the scale of the misplacement and immediately alerted the authorities. The incident underscores vulnerabilities in the logistical chain responsible for distributing government-issued cards and banking tools.

Law enforcement responded promptly, seizing the bundles and transferring them to a secure police facility for inventory and analysis. Circle Inspector Chand Bhooshan Prasad of the Bhikhni Post Office confirmed that the case has been logged and a detailed inquiry is in progress. Officials aim to trace the documents back to their issuing centers.

Community representatives, including former panchayat chief Jayshankar Bihari and local figure Tej Bahadur Singh, have urged strict action against any erring staff. Bhabhua SDAM Amit Kumar assured that the district administration is monitoring the investigation closely. The inquiry will pinpoint how the records ended up at the site and what procedural lapses occurred, with corrective measures promised for those found at fault.
