Bihar Man Ends Life at Bettiah Medical College Hospital
A distressing case has come to light from Bettiah in Bihar, where a 37-year-old man lost his life after falling from the third floor of the Government Medical College Hospital. Police and hospital sources are dealing with the matter, and the incident has raised concerns about the care of patients facing mental health challenges.
The deceased, Chhathu Paswan, was undergoing treatment for mental illness. He had been admitted to the hospital three days before his death. His family had recently experienced a moment of celebration, as his wife had delivered a son about 20 days earlier. The couple already had six daughters, making the newborn boy an event of great happiness.
Family and residence
Chhathu Paswan lived in Tadhwanandpur village, which comes under the Bairia police station area of Bettiah district. His father is Khesari Paswan. Relatives told reporters that his mental health had been unstable recently. On Friday, he was brought to the Government Medical College Hospital for treatment and was admitted to the isolation ward in C Block.
Family members were present in the hospital to take care of him. On Sunday night, his elder brother Mahatam Paswan and nephew Suraj Paswan stayed with him.
Missing from the bed
According to Mahatam Paswan, the three men had dinner and spoke with each other on Sunday night. Chhathu urged his brother and nephew to get some rest, pointing out that they had been awake for three consecutive days.
After they fell asleep, Mahatam woke around midnight and found that Chhathu was missing from his bed. The two relatives began a search throughout the hospital.
Sound of a fall
During the search, a loud sound of someone falling was heard in the hospital compound. Security guards who were on duty responded quickly and went to the spot.
Near the main gate of the hospital, a man was lying in a pool of blood. Family members identified him as Chhathu Paswan. He is reported to have died on the spot after falling from the third floor.
An emotional loss
Chhathu was the youngest of six brothers and leaves behind his wife, Madhuri Devi, and six daughters. Just 20 days before this tragedy, the family had welcomed a son, and their home had been filled with celebration. Now, the same household is grappling with an unbearable loss.
