Bihar: JD(U) Removes Anant Singh, Recommends MLA Disqualification

The Janata Dal (United) has taken disciplinary action against Mokama MLA Anant Singh, expelling him from the party for six years and cancelling his primary membership immediately. The party will also urge Speaker Prem Kumar to declare him ineligible as a member of the Legislative Assembly.

The move comes after Singh openly supported a Jan Suraaj Party candidate in the Bihar Legislative Council elections, going against the official JD(U) candidate.

According to the party's order, the reasons for the expulsion include continued violation of party instructions, the use of inappropriate and insulting language toward the top leadership, and campaigning for an opposing party's nominee in the recent council polls.

Neelam Devi, wife of Anant Singh, has also been expelled for six years and her primary membership has been cancelled. The order states that she was involved in anti-party activities.

The action was initiated a day after voting for the Bihar Legislative Council elections held on October 23. Singh had adopted a rebellious stance during the polls and extended support to Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh.

Defiance on the day of voting

On Friday, the day of polling, Singh criticized the JD(U) and its candidate Neeraj Kumar after his supporter Chhotu Singh was arrested. He accused the government of atrocities and questioned why the party had not acted despite his past opposition.

"I was their leader, yet Neeraj was never told anything from my side," he said. "He contested four times and we opposed him every time. We also opposed Lalan Singh in between, but the party did not say anything."

The expulsion has further deepened the rift between Singh and the party leadership.
