The nation mourns the loss of Hare Ram Kunwar, a dedicated soldier from Bhojpur, Bihar, who embraced martyrdom in a tragic vehicle accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. Thursday morning, he called home, his voice full of concern: ‘Mom, stay safe from the cold.’ By evening, the family received the shattering news of his death alongside nine comrades when their armored vehicle skidded off Khanni Top during a counter-terror operation.
A proud son of Nathmalpur village, Hare Ram aced his matric from Bariswan in 2003 and intermediate from Maharaja College in 2005 before enlisting in the Indian Army. Married to Khushboo in 2014, he left behind sons aged 8 and 5, unaware yet of their father’s heroism. His father sat dazed outside the home, while his wife and mother remained in shock, shielded from the grim reality.
Elder brother Jay Prakash, fighting back tears, shared how Hare Ram had partied at a family wedding just before resuming duties. Brother-in-law Abhishek highlighted his ambitions: to educate his medal-winning boys in Varanasi post-retirement, one as a doctor, the other an engineer. Local leaders and administration expressed condolences as the village draped in white, saluting the valiant jawan’s devotion to duty.
