Bihar cabinet clears Green Hydrogen Policy 2026, eyes Rs 16,000 crore investment

The Bihar cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, has approved the Green Hydrogen Policy 2026, aimed at reducing dependence on imported natural gas, cutting emissions and bringing clean-energy industry to the state. The policy is aligned with the Centre’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The policy targets production of one lakh tonnes of green hydrogen a year by 2031, supported by about 1 GW of electrolyser capacity and around 2.5 GW of renewable energy capacity. The state expects it to attract roughly Rs 16,000 crore of investment and create more than 12,000 direct and indirect jobs.

At the same meeting, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 2,761.55 crore to solarise 2,554 agricultural feeders, a move expected to give farmers more reliable daytime power for irrigation.
