Bihar Farmers' Attempt to Save Rice Leads to Fatal Electric Shock

A routine effort to protect a rice crop in Sitamarhi's Bairgania block turned into a deadly accident on Saturday morning. Farmers, aiming to keep wild boars away from their fields, installed an uninsulated live wire around a paddy terrace. The makeshift fence was intended as a deterrent but became a lethal trap.

When a buffalo broke free from its tether, Mohammad Islam Mansoori rushed to the field, unaware of the hidden hazard. He was immediately struck by the current and fell to the ground. His wife, Rubeda Khatoon, followed in search of her husband and suffered the same fate. Asmat Ali, a fellow villager who arrived later, also encountered the live wire and died on site.

Two wild boars were found dead alongside the human victims, confirming the wire's high voltage. A fifth person, Saif Ali, was severely burned while attempting to rescue the fallen villagers; he has been transferred to the district hospital for urgent treatment.

Local police arrived quickly, documented the scene, and secured the bodies for postmortem analysis. An investigation is underway to identify the responsible farmer and to examine the legality of the electricity use.

Residents of Takia Tola are in mourning and call for immediate action against hazardous agricultural practices. Authorities have urged farmers to adopt approved, non-electrical methods for safeguarding crops, emphasizing the need for safety in rural communities.
