Bihar’s political leadership has re‑positioned a senior bureaucrat amid mounting climate‑related challenges. Deepak Kumar, an officer of the 1984 IAS batch, has moved from the chief secretary’s office to the vice‑chairmanship of the Disaster Management Authority. His career spans district magistrate postings in more than a dozen districts, including Buxar, Nalanda, Hajipur and Motihari, as well as senior roles in health, urban development, tourism, and public relations. He has also headed the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation and the National Highways Authority of India, making him a well‑rounded choice for steering disaster preparedness.
