A cyclonic circulation forming over the north‑west Bay of Bengal is projected to evolve into a low‑pressure system by August 12. This system is likely to keep the eastern belt of India under a spell of heavy to very heavy rain for the next few days. Odisha, West Bengal (both Gangetic and Sub‑Himalayan zones) and Sikkim may receive sustained showers accompanied by strong winds and occasional thunderstorms. Bihar and Jharkhand are also expected to see an increase in thunderstorm activity with frequent lightning strikes.
