Authorities Issue Alert as Kosi Flood Threatens Thousands in Bihar
The Saharsa district administration has raised a full‑scale alert after the Kosi River breached its embankments. District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar personally visited the flood‑prone zones of Nauhatta, Mahishi and Salhua blocks to assess the water depth.
All sub‑district officials have been instructed to maintain a state of readiness, with emergency teams on standby to assist displaced residents. Despite the alert, many families remain stranded without food, clean water or shelter, and are forced to seek refuge in temporary camps.
Local complaints highlight a perceived lack of timely relief, as many households report that aid has not yet arrived. The administration has promised to expedite relief distribution and to coordinate with state disaster management agencies.
The situation remains volatile, with the Kosi's water level expected to rise further following additional releases from the upstream barrage.
