Arah Woman Survives Scissor Attack After 3-Hour Surgery

Doctors in Arah have saved the life of a 26-year-old woman who was attacked by her husband with scissors on Karwa Chauth. The woman suffered more than 150 wounds, and a three-hour surgery followed by around 150 stitches was needed to stabilise her.

The attack occurred at a rented house in the Badi Mathiya locality of Arah. The victim, Rakhi Kumari, and her husband, Pankaj Kumar Thakur, had been locked in a dispute over a mobile phone and money transactions, according to the victim.

Rakhi told doctors and family members that her husband wrongly accused her of misusing around Rs 1.5 lakh in her PhonePe account. When she proposed that her father-in-law verify the messages, the accused reacted with rage. She alleged that he used a tailoring scissors to strike her face, neck, back and hands repeatedly.

Surgeon Dr. Vikas Singh explained that the wounds were deep and numerous. Damaged tissues were repaired during a long operation, after which the patient was placed under 72 hours of observation. The medical team continues to monitor her recovery closely.

The victim's father, Manoj Thakur, has said that the accused has a history of drug and alcohol addiction and has been violent toward his daughter since their marriage in 2019. Community panchayats had previously been convened to resolve the issues, he added.

Town police station chief Devraj Rai confirmed that an FIR was lodged on the basis of the father's complaint. Pankaj Kumar Thakur has been arrested, and the scissors used in the crime have been seized. Police are continuing the investigation.
