Ara Murder Investigation Highlights Rise in Armed Violence

Police in Ara, Bihar are probing a high‑profile murder that took place on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of retired customs officer Ram Kumar Singh. Witnesses say three gunmen arrived at the victim’s garage, closed the gate and opened fire, delivering six to eight shots to his abdomen, chest and neck. Singh’s son Rajesh Kumar escaped serious injury as he was inside the car when the attack occurred.

The investigation points toward a possible connection with a property dispute over a 13‑kattha parcel bought by Singh for his son. The family alleges that local strong‑arm groups have been trying to seize the land, and that Singh had previously filed complaints with the police about intimidation and prior assaults.

Authorities have yet to identify the suspects, and the case has heightened public anxiety over a perceived surge in organized crime and the prevalence of armed confrontations in the region.
