Anant Singh's Attack on JDU as Voting Continues in Bihar
As voting for eight Bihar Legislative Council seats continues, JDU MLA Anant Singh has come out strongly against his own party following the detention of his supporter Chhotu Singh. Singh alleged that the party had never said a word to Neeraj Kumar, even though Neeraj had, in Singh's words, committed injustices while holding power. Singh said he had been the leader of Neeraj's faction, yet the party had not once objected to Neeraj on his behalf.
Singh further said that he had fought against Neeraj in four elections and opposed him every time. He also claimed to have opposed Lalan Singh at different times, but in those instances too, the party did not respond. His comments have brought fresh scrutiny to the JDU's handling of dissent in the run-up to the results.
The Patna graduate seat has emerged as the hottest contest in the current round of voting. JDU's Neeraj Singh is up against Jan Suraaj's Anuj Singh, whom Anant Singh has backed. Chhotu Singh, an expelled JDU leader who had campaigned with Anant Singh, was detained by police on Friday during the polls. Anant Singh, responding to the situation, said the public is the real master of the electoral process.
Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD leader who also serves as Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, said his party was winning each seat and was receiving very positive feedback from across the state. He warned that the ruling side's efforts, whether using money, political machinery or administrative support, would not work. He said the ruling party had started its countdown and was visibly frightened by the prospect of defeat.
Just before voting began in Mokama, a sudden clash erupted between two groups, causing immediate tension among administrative officials. Police reached the spot promptly, controlled the situation and detained four people involved. Eyewitnesses reported that a disagreement between JDU and Jan Suraaj supporters near the polling centre quickly turned into a minor scuffle.
