Tragedy struck Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on National Highway-31 as a bus traveling at breakneck speed rear-ended an e-rickshaw and collided with a pickup van, resulting in four fatalities including a child. The mishap unfolded Tuesday evening, plunging the area into panic and grief.
Eyewitnesses described the bus speeding from Bhagalpur towards Saharsa. The e-rickshaw, ferrying people back from treatment in Narayanpur, bore the brunt of the impact near Dayalpur under Jhandapur thana limits. Four passengers perished instantly, while six sustained severe injuries; five are fighting for life in hospital.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly amid scenes of distress. The injured were rushed to JLN Medical College Hospital. Senior officials, led by DM Dr. Naval Kishor Chaudhary, inspected the site. Bodies were sent for autopsy, vehicles towed away, and the highway cleared of debris to ease congestion.
Identification efforts revealed two victims: Arvind Kumar Mandal from Katihar and young Kunal Kumar, aged 6, from Khagaria’s Morakahi village. Relatives’ anguish has gripped the locality, with wailing families drawing somber crowds.
