Patna witnessed a celebration of solar pioneers as 24 residents who slashed their electricity bills to zero using solar energy were felicitated. Joining them on the podium were 10 leading vendors excelling in rooftop solar deployments and five energy department staffers pivotal to the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’s success. Certificates and souvenirs marked the honors at the Thursday event.
Hosted by PESU at the capital’s Energy Auditorium amid the vibrant Solar Mela 2026, the program kicked off with Energy Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh lighting the ceremonial lamp. As head of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Singh set an inspiring tone for the gathering.
He drew parallels between military service and civilian contributions, positioning the PM Surya Ghar initiative as a historic weapon in the fight against global warming. ‘Your solar rooftops are badges of national service,’ Singh told the champions, commending their role in curbing pollution and advancing clean energy.
To streamline the scheme’s rollout, Deloitte has been roped in for CAP in key cities like Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Biharsharif, tackling bottlenecks head-on. Governments at both levels remain committed to universal access.
Banks received a firm mandate: clear PM Surya Ghar applications in 10 days, skipping extraneous paperwork. Citizens facing issues were urged to visit nearby offices promptly.
Dilip Kumar, PESU’s General Manager, highlighted the mela’s value in demystifying solar tech, guiding attendees on vendor choices and installations. This momentum signals Bihar’s bold stride into a solar-powered era, where free electricity becomes reality for the masses and sustainability takes center stage.
