Video shows harassment of school students in Bihar; Gandhi demands justice

A distressing clip surfacing from Jamui, Bihar, has captured the attention of the nation's political landscape. The footage documents a boy and a girl, both studying in the 10th standard, being forcibly stopped by a group of young men on a public road. The students were verbally taunted, physically dragged, and the girl was subjected to indecent touching despite her pleas for release.

Rahul Gandhi used the platform X to highlight the incident, calling it "a symptom of deep‑seated patriarchy" and not a reflection of any cultural norm. He called for immediate identification of every participant in the video and for them to be charged under the POCSO Act. Gandhi also queried the authorities on why, despite the incident occurring on 19 September, none of the perpetrators have been incarcerated and why women cannot safely travel after 7 p.m. in the state.

The senior superintendent of police in Jamui, Vishwajit Dayal, confirmed that an FIR has been filed and the police are actively investigating. He assured that all accused will be apprehended as the probe progresses.
