Bihar: Police Shoot Dreaded Criminal During Vaishali Clash
Police in Bihar's Vaishali district exchanged fire with criminals late on Sunday night, leaving a dreaded criminal wounded in the right leg. The clash took place at Marmala Chaur in Digahi Kala under Sadar police station limits.
The wounded criminal, Raj Mangal Kumar alias Chhotu, was arrested and taken to Hajipur Sadar Hospital, where he is receiving treatment under heavy security. Vaishali Superintendent of Police Shubhank Mishra has confirmed the encounter.
According to police, a joint operation by Vaishali Police and the Special Task Force was launched after a secret tip-off that criminals would assemble at Marmala Chaur that night. A police team under Sadar SDPO-1 surrounded the area. The suspects opened fire as soon as they spotted the police. In self-defence, the police returned fire, and Raj Mangal Kumar was struck.
His accomplices managed to flee. The police detained the injured man and rushed him to hospital. A weapon was recovered from the place of the encounter.
Police say Raj Mangal Kumar alias Chhotu has been active across Vaishali and Samastipur for a considerable time. He has over a dozen serious cases on record, including robbery and Arms Act offences. He is reportedly the main accused in the Anil Jewellers robbery in Samastipur. He had escaped from a Samastipur court in 2025, after which police kept searching for him.
SP Shubhank Mishra visited the site after learning of the incident and reviewed the situation. The FSL team collected forensic samples from the spot. Police are carrying out raids to arrest the absconding accomplices, and the investigation continues.
