Bihar opposition leader seeks state ceremonies for late socialist leaders

Tejashwi Yadav, the principal opposition figure in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, has penned a letter to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary urging the government to recognize the legacies of three deceased socialist leaders – Sharad Yadav, Dr. Raghvansh Prasad Singh and Ramvilas Paswan – through public statues and official state ceremonies on their birth or death anniversaries.

The letter emphasizes that all three personalities were not only political heavyweights but also ardent advocates of socialist principles, dedicating their lives to the upliftment of the underprivileged. Yadav points out that Dr. Raghvansh Singh had previously submitted a set of demands to the then‑CM, many of which remain pending after a six‑year lapse. He calls on the current administration to honor those unfulfilled wishes as a sign of respect.

Sharad Yadav’s extensive parliamentary career was characterized by his focus on “social justice” and the betterment of Bihar’s weaker sections. Ramvilas Paswan, known for his egalitarian stance, spent his entire public life fighting for the rights and development of marginalized groups. The appeal ends with a respectful request for the installation of statues and the proclamation of official commemorative events, thereby cementing the leaders’ contributions in the state’s collective memory.
