Bihar Government Launches Bengaluru Facility to Assist Migrant Workers on the Job

On August 12, the Bihar government introduced a Migrant Worker Facility Centre in Bengaluru, marking a significant step toward providing on‑site welfare services for its labour force employed outside the state. Minister Arun Shankar Prasad conducted the online inauguration from Patna’s planning building, underscoring the importance of migrant workers to Bihar’s economic progress. The centre will serve as a liaison between the labour departments of Bihar and Karnataka, fostering stronger coordination on worker welfare issues. Karnataka’s Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has allocated space in its safety building for the centre’s operations. The hub will assist workers in registering with the Board, unlocking access to a variety of welfare benefits. It will also address workplace disputes, health and safety concerns, and urgent assistance during emergencies. Legal aid will be offered for wage‑related problems and to explain new labour legislation. An information assistance desk will help workers navigate language challenges and discover new job prospects. Bihar has designated labour enforcement officer Akash Kumar to oversee the centre, supported by two data entry operators and an office boy for local assistance. The initiative seeks to ensure safety, respect, and social security for migrant workers, contributing to Bihar’s development agenda and the nation’s growth plans.
