Bihar Council Election: Calls to Prioritize Teacher Respect and Employment
Prashant Kishor, the founder of Jan Suraj, visited Nalanda on Saturday to engage with voters from the graduate and teacher constituencies ahead of the Bihar Legislative Council elections. He appealed for a voting pattern that rises above caste, religion and political promises, focusing on education, job creation and the honour of teachers.
He stressed that these polls are not about forming or ousting a government; they are an opportunity to make the current administration answerable to the public.
Kishor asked voters to choose whether they want to continue under Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s "unrestricted" regime or to apply necessary checks on it. He urged a strong victory for Jan Suraj candidates Divya Jyoti and Anoop, who are contesting the Nalanda‑Patna graduate and teacher seats.
Clarifying earlier statements about Chaudhary, Kishor warned against misinterpretation. He reiterated allegations that the chief minister failed his seventh‑grade exam and had previously been jailed on charges of seven murders. He cautioned that if legislators start labeling individuals as criminals and ordering lethal action, the same logic could be turned on Chaudhary.
While Chaudhary claims a court acquitted him, Kishor argued that anyone facing legal scrutiny deserves the right to a fair trial. He invited legal proceedings against his own remarks if they are found inaccurate, underscoring his confidence.
Addressing a viral Jan Suraj video, Kishor questioned why BJP state media head Danish Iqbal would praise the organization. He reminded the audience that both the centre and Bihar are under BJP rule, and encouraged people to independently verify any allegations of financial distribution to Jan Suraj.
He dismissed JD(U) MLA Anant Singh’s statement as an internal party affair, noting that those in power can investigate and act accordingly.
The election covers eight seats of the Bihar Legislative Council, and Jan Suraj has fielded candidates for each seat.
