Bhubaneswar Tragedy: Alcohol‑Induced Fight Leads to Patricide
The Mancheswar police jurisdiction in Bhubaneswar reported a second sensational murder within a single day. On Tuesday, 25‑year‑old S. Debraj, an addict to both alcohol and brown sugar, attacked his 50‑year‑old father, labour‑contractor S. Duryodhan, using a steel pipe and later a stone, resulting in death.
According to officials, the father had been feeding his son medication‑infused bidis as part of a de‑addiction effort. The son, who preferred regular tobacco, often argued with his father about this method.
A severe quarrel the previous night forced the mother and other relatives to leave the house. The following morning, when Duryodhan again offered the medicated bidi, Debraj demanded a plain one, reigniting the conflict. The argument turned violent, culminating in the fatal assault.
Family sources mentioned that the accused suffers from a brain tumour, which can cause sudden fits of anger. The police have placed the suspect in custody, and a court appearance is scheduled soon.
