Jagannath Puri’s Bhargavi River Becomes Gateway to Moksha During Shradha

The Bhargavi River, flowing beside the revered Jagannath Temple, transforms into a pilgrimage hub during the 2026 Shradha season. Pilgrims perform tarpan, donate water and sesame, and place pinda daan on its sacred banks, believing the river itself acts as a conduit for ancestral souls to attain moksha. The practice aligns with the belief that a pilgrimage to any of the four dhams bestows complete absolution from sins. The Shradha period this year runs from September 26 to October 10, with the final ceremony on the Sarvapitra Amavasya.
