Bengaluru Terror Case: NIA Imposes Fine and Imprisonment on Sayyad Rahman

A special NIA court in Karnataka sentenced Sayyad Fasiur Rahman to a seven‑year rigorous jail term and imposed a fine of 48,000 rupees for his role in a terror conspiracy linked to the Al‑Hind ISIS cell in Bengaluru. The investigation began with a police FIR on 10 January 2020 and was officially taken over by the NIA on 23 January 2020. So far, the agency has filed three charge sheets against twenty alleged participants.

Prosecutors revealed that the chief architect of the plot was Mahbub Pasha, who held multiple meetings at his residence in Guruppanaplya. Those gatherings plotted sectarian disturbances and targeted assassinations aimed at advancing ISIS's anti‑national objectives. Rahman’s involvement included attending these meetings and acquiring a tent and knives from a sports showroom to support wilderness training activities.

The NIA continues to trace an online handler believed to have designed the operational modules of the conspiracy. This follows the earlier detention of two suspects on 13 August in Kalburgi, accused of maintaining regular contact with Pakistan’s ISI and the ISIS network via WhatsApp calls and Facebook messages.
