Bengaluru launches ‘Freedom From Waste’ campaign as BJP highlights pothole fatalities

Bengaluru, 1 August – The Karnataka government officially inaugurated its "Freedom From Waste" (FFW) campaign near Estim Mall, aiming to enhance solid‑waste management and city cleanliness. The ceremony featured Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Development Minister Krishna Baire Gowda.

At the same time, BJP representatives used the event to draw attention to the city’s pothole crisis. Party leader R. Ashok asked when the administration would begin a dedicated "Fill the Potholes, Bengaluru" initiative, noting that many accidents and fatalities in recent monsoons are directly linked to deep road cavities.

The opposition pointed out that despite significant financial outlays for road repairs, the condition of Bengaluru’s streets remains poor. Ashok demanded that authorities re‑allocate resources from promotional activities to immediate pothole‑filling operations, emphasizing the need for safe commuting for both four‑wheelers and two‑wheelers.
