Punjab’s relentless war on drugs scored a significant victory as Batala police exposed a dangerous cross-border racket smuggling heroin and illegal arms. The April 11 operation led to two arrests and the recovery of contraband worth millions.
For an extended period, law enforcement had intel on border-crossing consignments feeding Punjab’s underworld. A special task force was mobilized, culminating in a swift raid that caught the accused red-handed.
Seized items included 6.5 kg of heroin, a .30 bore pistol loaded with six cartridges, and Rs 1 lakh in illicit cash. The street value of the drugs alone runs into crores, highlighting the scale of the operation.
Preliminary findings point to deeper connections: the gang not only trafficked narcotics but also armed local gangs for extortion and other crimes. This nexus posed a severe risk to public safety.
With an FIR filed at Batala’s Civil Lines station, detectives are now mapping the entire network, hunting kingpins, and investigating infiltration paths. Such actions underscore Punjab’s zero-tolerance stance on narco-terrorism.
