Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara police department has taken a firm stand against indiscipline by terminating Constable Rahul Sharma (No. 215) following 311 consecutive days of unapproved leave. The dismissal order, signed by SP Bhawna Gupta, reflects a broader commitment to maintaining rigorous standards within the force.
The constable’s absence began on April 5, 2025, prompting repeated departmental notices that went unheeded. A thorough probe confirmed his chronic absenteeism, documenting 14 similar violations throughout his career. This repeated negligence painted a picture of utter disregard for duty and protocol.
Drawing on established regulations like Rule 10(8) of the Civil Services rules and Clause 221(a) of the Police Manual, Gupta formalized the separation from service. The IPS officer, with prior stints in Surajpur, Surguja, Bemetara, and Gourela-Pendra-Marwahi, has prioritized discipline since assuming charge in April 2025.
Under her watch, the district police have notched notable achievements, such as retrieving 417 missing mobiles valued at Rs 63 lakh through the ‘Samadhan Abhiyan’. This latest enforcement action amplifies those efforts, signaling that lapses in duty will not be tolerated.
Experts view the termination as a benchmark for disciplinary proceedings. It deters potential offenders and reassures citizens that the police are serious about internal reforms. As the department gears up for future challenges, this incident reinforces the bedrock of professionalism essential for effective law enforcement in Chhattisgarh.
