Authorities in Banda have drawn a hard line on illegal animal sacrifice ahead of this year’s Bakrid celebrations. A series of peace-committee meetings at both district and sub-divisional levels concluded with explicit directives: prohibited species are off-limits, and no sacrifice may occur outside designated, enclosed spaces. The Additional District Magistrate emphasized that these rules are non-negotiable and will be enforced through increased police patrolling and CCTV surveillance. Sanitation emerged as another top priority. Municipal teams have been instructed to map every approved site so that waste can be cleared within hours of the rituals. Separate teams will handle blood-stained water, offal, and leftover skins to avoid contamination of drains or groundwater. Power and water supply departments have also been roped in to ensure that facilities at these sites remain functional round the clock. Community feedback gathered during the meetings has been catalogued and assigned to respective departments for time-bound redressal. Officials say the twin objectives are simple: maintain communal harmony and project a clean, orderly image of the city. Residents have been urged to cooperate by confining sacrifices to permitted zones and promptly reporting violations on a dedicated helpline.
