In a scathing attack on the ruling dispensation, Samajwadi Party parliamentarian Awadhesh Prasad on Friday decried the alarming degradation of the Saryu River, pinning the blame on misguided policies. The river, once central to Ayodhya’s spiritual life, has seen its water levels plummet, with its channel now veering towards Gonda.
Speaking to reporters, Prasad described a heartbreaking scene at Ram Ki Paidi: ‘There’s zero natural water; they’re pumping it in from handpumps—all courtesy of BJP mismanagement.’ He accused the government of peddling falsehoods detached from truth, prioritizing everything over citizens’ interests.
Drawing from cultural heritage, he called for renaming Ghaghara to Saryu per ancient scriptures. ‘Our government will do it in a day and restore its glory,’ he pledged. Prasad stressed redirecting the flow to Ayodhya for devotees’ convenience.
Turning to local grievances, he recounted multiple parliamentary interventions against Ayodhya’s bulldozer demolitions. ‘Homes are razed, lands seized in nefarious campaigns,’ he said, committing to escalate the matter with Akhilesh Yadav and the public, decrying assaults on Ayodhya’s honor.
