Authorities Seize Illegal Pet Shops, Free Over 800 Creatures

Police from the Central District of Delhi, aided by People for Animals, Worldwide Animal and the state’s Forest and Wildlife Department, executed a carefully planned raid on five illegal pet‑shop outlets in the pigeon market near Jama Masjid. The raid uncovered more than 800 animals being held unlawfully, among them 431 birds protected under national legislation. The operation also rescued 18 guinea pigs, nine grey squirrels, 41 white rats and 11 rabbits. All cages were inspected, and the creatures were examined, tagged and relocated to proper shelters. The swift action prevented further cruelty and sent a strong message against the illegal wildlife trade.
