Authorities Recover Six Child Victims After Flood‑Related Drowning in Sultanganj

Police in Sultanganj, Baghpur district, confirmed the recovery of six child victims who drowned in flood‑filled water on Monday. The children, aged between 5 and 12, had gone to a roadside depression that had collected rainwater, intending to take a quick bath.

Witnesses reported that the youngsters were unaware of how deep the water had become after recent downpours. As they waded in, the water surged, pulling them beneath the surface. Immediate rescue attempts by nearby residents proved unsuccessful.

Sultanganj police, upon receiving the distress call, coordinated a search with local volunteers. All six bodies were retrieved and are now with the forensic department for further investigation.

The victims comprised five children from Ward 27 of Sultanganj and one from the neighboring Sabour jurisdiction. The incident has left the community in shock, with many families mourning the loss of their children.

Law enforcement officials have reiterated safety advisories, urging citizens to keep children away from any water‑logged pits, ponds, or low‑lying areas during the ongoing floods that continue to affect large parts of Bihar.
