Authorities Arrest Contractors Following Delhi Building Collapse

Following the tragic collapse of a building in Delhi's Chawri Bazar, law enforcement officials have taken into custody the owner and three contractors associated with the illegal construction. The owner, identified as Samullah alias Ayub, was arrested alongside Siraj, Tajuddin and Furqan, all residents of Delhi who were linked to the project from Sirhoti village in Faridabad.

The incident, which occurred at 9:50 a.m. near the Chawri Bazar metro station, resulted in seven fatalities. The most recent body recovered was that of 66‑year‑old Luchman Mukhiya from Darbhanga district, Bihar. Earlier victims comprised five individuals from Khagaria district—Sanjit Kumar, Pankaj Sharma, Shantu, Dinesh Shah—and Kishori Shah from Saharsa, as well as Delhi native Vipin Ram.

An FIR was lodged on November 5 at Hauz Kazi police station, charging the accused under sections 105, 290, 125(a) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code. The rescue operation, coordinated by Delhi Police, NDRF, fire services and the municipal corporation, also led to the suspension of a junior engineer and an assistant engineer from the corporation for alleged lapses.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has assured the public that the investigation will be exhaustive and that the perpetrators will be dealt with firmly.
