Audit Reveals Thousands of Moved, Deceased and Duplicate Voters in Karnataka
A detailed verification exercise under the SIR campaign in Vijayanagar has uncovered significant anomalies in the existing electoral roll. The audit identified 3,619 voters who have permanently shifted residence to other locations. Additionally, the death of 5,228 registered voters has been confirmed through municipal records.
Equally concerning, 1,632 duplicate or fraudulent entries were detected, indicating that the same individual had been listed multiple times or that fictitious names had been entered. These findings are being used to purge the roll and prevent potential irregularities during elections.
The district administration emphasized that correcting these discrepancies is crucial for upholding the integrity of the voting process. Remedial actions include notifying the affected voters, updating their status in the database, and informing political parties of the cleaned list.
By eliminating outdated, deceased, and counterfeit entries, the SIR drive aims to deliver a voter list that reflects the true electorate of the district.
