Attempted Murder Case Filed as Gunman Fires at Relative in Kolkata

Police in Kolkata have registered an attempted murder case after a relative opened fire on another family member in the North Port locality. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on August 30 when Kartik Sonkar allegedly threatened his kin, Santosh Chaudhary, over a domestic dispute. Sonkar and two accomplices approached PK Thakur Ghat Road, saw Chaudhary, and discharged several rounds, striking him in the stomach. Emergency responders rushed the injured man to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where his condition has been described as stable. Authorities have invoked multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959, to charge the suspects. A citywide manhunt for Sonkar has been launched, with police urging the public to share any information that could lead to his arrest.
