Relief Operations Intensify as Assam Faces Record Flood Damage
The flood crisis in Assam has entered a critical phase as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the devastation in Sonari sub‑division on Wednesday. The tour included a walk through flooded villages, interaction with families staying in makeshift camps and a briefing with district officers on the status of rescue and rehabilitation work. Sarma emphasized that the death toll has risen to 31 and that more than 7.27 lakh residents across 25 districts have been impacted since late April. She praised the 24‑hour deployment of the NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, state police and local officials, and reiterated that the centre is funding the entire disaster response, including an advance grant and possible extra allocations based on the evolving scenario.
