Assam Police Probe Alleged Property Accumulation by Retired Railway Officer

Law enforcement agencies in Assam have launched an extensive investigation into alleged disproportionate assets held by retired North East Frontier Railway Deputy Chief Engineer Sajal Kanti Das and his wife Sangeeta Das. The CBI's Guwahati unit reports that the couple's wealth grew from roughly ₹ 39.85 lakh in 2016 to about ₹ 1.28 crore in 2022, a surge that cannot be justified by their known salary and pension. Among the properties under scrutiny are a house on five kathas of land in Rangpur, valued at ₹ 19 lakh, large tracts of land in Udhurband and Lakhipur registered to Sangeeta Das, a commercial plot on Silchar's Club Road worth ₹ 34 lakh, and a flat on the same road listed under Sajal Kanti Das for over ₹ 20 lakh. The investigation also uncovered several bank accounts, fixed deposits and term deposits holding significant sums. The case remains under detailed verification, and further legal action will be determined after the financial and property records are fully examined.
