Assam governor pushes for faster progress on sports university permanent campus

During a walkthrough of the permanent campus of Shri Aniruddha Dev Sports University at Chabua, Dibrugarh district, Governor Lakshman Prasad Achary instructed officials to expedite construction activities. He warned that delays would postpone student access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities.

The Governor inspected the site with Public Works Department (Buildings) officers, reviewing the status of buildings and the plan for a specialised yoga centre. He reiterated that modern sports and health infrastructure is essential for nurturing well‑rounded athletes.

He also ordered university leaders to coordinate closely with the Public Works Department and Dibrugarh district administration, ensuring the project adheres to the stipulated timeline. Regular monthly updates must be forwarded to the Raj Bhavan for oversight.

Earlier in the day, the Governor chaired a meeting at the university’s city campus where Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Heerendra Nath Sarma outlined recent academic developments. Governor Achary emphasized alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 and promoted the adoption of a ‘Professor of Practice’ concept to reduce the gap between classroom theory and field practice.

The Vice‑Chancellor highlighted the launch of new courses on traditional elephant handling, local games and modern training methods, designed to safeguard cultural traditions while embracing contemporary sports education.
