Assam Government Pushes MSME Expansion with New Policies

The Assam administration has rolled out a series of initiatives aimed at accelerating the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state now hosts 1.729 million registered MSMEs, a figure that reflects the success of recent reforms.

Key measures include the Advantage Assam initiative that attracts investments, a simplification of regulatory procedures, and improved access to financing for small traders. These steps are designed to nurture entrepreneurship, especially in manufacturing, food processing, handcrafts and agro‑based industries.

A visual representation shared by the CM shows a steady upward trajectory for MSME registrations, reinforcing the sector’s role as a catalyst for economic diversification. Government officials say the rising numbers also indicate greater awareness of subsidy schemes and fiscal incentives among business owners.

The administration expects the expanding MSME base to bolster exports, generate sustainable employment, and position Assam as a rising industrial hub in Northeast India.
