Assam Funds Advanced Enclosures for Tigers, Bears and Rhinos

The state’s Public Works Department will manage the construction of the wildlife sanctuary in two distinct stages. The first stage, with an allocation of about ₹259 crore, concentrates on building reinforced enclosures for core species such as tigers, gaur, leopards and bears, together with a veterinary clinic and a rescue unit.

The second stage, earmarked at ₹275 crore, will introduce specialized pens for non‑native animals like Asian lions, cheetahs, zebras and hippos, along with a cutting‑edge research centre. These facilities are designed to support conservation breeding programmes, scientific monitoring and educational outreach.

Officials anticipate that the project will not only safeguard endangered fauna but also generate significant employment opportunities for local communities.
