State Government Aims to Make Assam First in Northeast with Proton Cancer Care
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the proton beam facility will position Assam as a pioneer in the Northeast for delivering high‑precision oncology services. The centre will cater not only to residents of Assam but also to patients from neighboring states, making advanced care more accessible and affordable.
Sarma noted that the initiative complements earlier collaborations with Tata Trusts, under which several specialized cancer hospitals were set up. The new project builds on that foundation, further strengthening the state’s healthcare capabilities.
By localising top‑tier cancer treatment, the government expects to improve survival rates and lessen the emotional and economic strain on families that currently travel to major metropolitan centers for such services.
