Assam CM: Legal Clears Path for Faster Kamakhya Temple Corridor Build

In a significant update for devotees, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that construction on the Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor will gain speed after overcoming key legal barriers. Speaking on X on Thursday, Sarma highlighted the state's commitment to world-class facilities at the revered temple. During his review, the CM emphasized how the project will revolutionize access to the Nilachal Hill shrine. 'I've assessed the Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor progress. With legal formalities largely done, expect rapid advancements ahead to ensure top-notch pilgrim facilities,' he posted. Costing Rs 498 crore and kicked off in February 2024, this PM-DevINE flagship initiative seeks to modernize the Shakti Peeth's surroundings. Amid surging footfall, particularly at the Ambubachi festival where lakhs converge, the corridor addresses chronic overcrowding. Plans detail a multi-level walkway system, path expansions to nearly 30 feet wide, and a tenfold increase in open areas to over 100,000 sq ft. Earlier challenges stemmed from petitions citing risks to ancient edifices and subterranean springs on the sacred hill. Sarma's announcement marks a turning point, clearing the deck for accelerated work. Pilgrims can look forward to safer, more efficient darshan routes, blending tradition with contemporary design. This project underscores Assam's push to elevate its spiritual tourism infrastructure while preserving cultural sanctity.
