Political Exit: Simanta Shekhar Leaves BJP Executive Committee in Assam

Simanta Shekhar, a well‑known singer‑turned‑politician from Assam, formally resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state executive committee on Tuesday, September 22. He also withdrew his primary BJP membership and surrendered the chairmanship of the Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation.

The resignation letters were presented to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP chief Dileep Saikia. Despite the filing, the corporation’s website still lists him as chairman.

Shekhar clarified that his departure is entirely personal and unrelated to any disagreement with the party’s ideology, policies, or internal workings. He assured that his decision is not a critique aimed at any individual within the party and affirmed he will not join any other political formation.

He extended heartfelt wishes to BJP leaders, workers, supporters and colleagues, urging the party to keep serving the people of Assam. He also congratulated Chief Minister Sarma, expressing hope that the state’s development trajectory will remain strong under his governance.

The resignation emerges amid heightened political maneuvering in Assam as parties ready themselves for upcoming electoral contests and organizational drives.
